State fair announces new food offerings

Among the new foods featured this year at the Minnesota State Fair: A vegan-gluten free variation on chicken wings, tater tots stuffed with reuben ingredients, and sandwiches fixings wrapped in waffles.

There are 27 official new foods and five new vendors for this year’s Great Minnesota Get Together, according to a news release. For those keeping track: There are nearly 500 foods and 300 concessions at the fair, which is Aug. 23-Sept. 3 at the State Fairgrounds.

Earth wings, by annual favorite French Meadow Bakery & Cafe, is deep-fried cauliflower with sesame BBQ sauce — vegan and gluten free. Irish tater kegs, by O’Gara’s at the Fair, are a mix of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sour cream and potato and drizzled with Thousand Island dressing in a bed of sauerkraut. Nordic waffles by Nordic Waffles are seven varieties of sandwiches, ranging from breakfast flavors to smoked salmon, cream cheese and green onions.

Other fare fair to spend the next to months considering: Zesty PB&J sausage, which has all those ingredients and more ground into the meat; UpNorth Puff Pasty, which is pasty on the outside, porketta, cheese curds, mustard and chopped dill pickle on the inside; Rainbow cloud roll, which is ice cream covered with cereal and wrapped in cotton candy.
