Superior Street construction kickoff is Thursday
A kickoff event will be held Thursday morning in downtown Duluth to mark the start of the Superior Street reconstruction project.
The three-year, $31.5 million project will include replacing the brick pavers with concrete shaded to differentiate motorized traffic lanes from areas designated for pedestrian use. Utility lines along the downtown thoroughfare also will be replaced.
Work this summer will focus on the segment between Seventh Avenue West and Third Avenue West.
Weather permitting, the work is set to begin next week.
The kickoff event is free and open to the public. Duluth Mayor Emily Larson, Kristi Stokes from the Greater Downtown Council and others involved in the project will speak. Afterward there will be music, food and beverages.
