Twins player Miguel Sano was in a traffic incident early Sunday that left a police officer injured in the Dominican Republic, according to USA Today.

The third baseman reportedly was detained and released after running over the officer, breaking his leg, while the officer was on duty outside a nightclub in San Pedro de Macoris, the paper reported.

A Twins spokesman told USA Today that the organization has been “made aware of the situation involving Miguel Sano in the Dominican Republic. We are still gathering facts at this point.”

Sano, 25, a native of the Dominican Republic who lives there during the offseason, is coming off an abbreviated, injury-shortened season in 2018. He batted .199 in 71 games with 13 home runs, 53 hits and 115 strikeouts for the Twins.
