College women's hockey: Bulldogs' Brodt scores in Team USA debut at Four Nations
Minnesota Duluth junior forward and co-captain Sydney Brodt tallied a goal and an assist Tuesday in her debut with the U.S. Women's National Team, which opened the 2018 Four Nations Cup with a 5-1 win over Finland in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
The Americans scored five unanswered goals after falling behind 1-0 in the first period.
Brodt assisted on Brianna Decker's game-tying goal 13 seconds into the second period. The Bulldogs' co-captain then made it 4-1 for the U.S. with a one-timer at the 8:28 mark of the second.
UMD junior goaltender Maddie Rooney was back between the pipes for Team USA for the first time since making the Olympic gold-medal winning stop in a shootout against Canada in Pyeongchang, South Korea. She stopped nine of the 10 shots she faced.
Team USA continues Four Nations preliminary round play at 7 p.m. today against Canada.
• Hermantown's Blake Biondi, a UMD men's hockey recruit, finished with a goal and an assist for Team USA in a 5-4 preliminary round loss to Canada Black on Tuesday in the World Under-17 Challenge in Saint John, New Brunswick. Biondi now has a goal and two assists in three games for the U.S., which plays in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
