College hockey: UMD men slip to fourth
The Minnesota Duluth men dropped two places to fourth in today's weekly United States College Hockey Online Division I poll, following a weekend split against North Dakota at Amsoil Arena.
The defending NCAA champion Bulldogs (10-3-1), who beat the Fighting Hawks 5-0 on Friday night before falling 2-1 in the series finale against their heated NCHC rival, trail first-time No. 1 Massachusetts, No. 2 St. Cloud State and No. 3 Minnesota State-Mankato.
UMD received one first-place vote.
Other ranked NCHC teams include No. 6 Denver, No. 14 North Dakota and No. 17 Miami.
Western Michigan, UMD's opponent this weekend, received the highest number of votes of any team to not make the top 20.
• St. Scholastica (6-1-1) debuted in the Division III poll at No. 15 after a weekend NCHA sweep over fourth-ranked Adrian and Trine. The Saints are in nonconference action this weekend, traveling to St. Peter, Minn., to play Gustavus Adolphus on Friday and returning home to take on St. John's on Saturday.
